Who I am....

Erika Sherk- Certified Gladue Writer

My name is Erika Sherk. I am a status First Nations member of the Gitanmaax Band of the Gitxsan Nation. My father clan is Wilp Lax Gibuu. (House of the Wolf Clan)

I was born and raised in Hazelton, B.C., where I currently reside with my family. 

I am a certified Gladue writer from the Indigenous Perspectives Society, and a retired RCMP officer. I have experience as an Aboriginal reintegration worker, youth support worker, sexual assault navigator, and writer of many subjects. I am also a certified Well-briety facilitator with the White Bison Institute for intergenerational trauma and abuse.

I am passionate about providing quality accessible services to the people in the North.

Definition of DIDELK.

Gitxsan word meaning one person who speaks to another or others; one person talking to another or others. 

I felt connection to this word as my role as a Gladue writer is to help people tell their sacred life story, so that people within the justice system may hear it.
